Hello and welcome to
loving living being
Sometimes all that is needed is some time and space to talk about what is happening to us with someone we feel safe with who is listening closely and giving us their full attention. Friends and family are often the ones we turn to but this may not always feel right, especially if the issue that we want to discuss is very personal or painful or it concerns the people who are closest to us. Meeting with a counsellor or psychotherapist can be helpful in addressing many issues especially if we are feeling overwhelmed, ashamed, powerless, stuck or we have simply lost our way.
Talking to someone who has our interests at heart but is not involved in our day to day lives can free us to explore our situation more objectively and as we learn not to judge but simply be curious about how we have come to be the way we are we might notice growing kindness and compassion towards ourselves creating more space for changes to emerge. As we explore our past influences and learn to tune in to our immediate experience as a resource to inform and guide us, we gain more clarity about what is actually happening to us in the here and now and can make more informed choices which in turn can restore our confidence, balance and sense of well being. Seeing a therapist is not just about addressing problems but can become an exciting opportunity to learn and grow
There are many counsellors and psychotherapists to choose from and it is important to make the right choice about who you might want to work with before committing yourself to counselling or psychotherapy. I hope that by reading through the information you find here you might get a feel about how I work and by understanding more about what I am offering you will be in a better position to decide whether I might be the right therapist for you
I am a MBACP & UKCP registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist adhering to a strict code of ethics which informs my practice for individuals and couples, located in Crofton Park, London SE4. I completed my five years training to diploma level in 2007 and I have been practicing as an integrative therapist since 2004 which means that I understand and have experience of applying a broad range of theoretical perspectives which allows us many choices in the ways in which we might work together.
I continue to undertake training, qualifying as a couples therapist in 2011, Focusing Oriented Therapist in 2015 and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in May 2016.
Somatic Experiencing is a potent psychobiological method for resolving trauma symptoms and relieving chronic stress. Trauma does not rest in the event but in the individuals nervous system and by paying attention to that, the system can be helped to reset restoring inner balance and enhancing resilience to stress. Because SE supports regulation of the autonomic nervous system, which underlies every aspect of our physical, emotional, and psychological functioning, the applications of SE are diverse and could include for example supporting mood regulation, reworking of addictive patterns, and the prevention or resolution of PTSD. Somatic Experiencing can also offer helpful tools for couples working together, learning to “track” and understand their own and their partner’s physiological state so they can stay regulated and support each other in contrast to repeating patterns of unconsciously reacting to perceived triggers and threats. As we learn to read the language the body speaks we gain access to a deeper understanding of how we have been shaped by events in our lives that continue to affect us in the present and use this knowledge to begin healing our wounded selves.
The overall approach in which I was trained is transpersonal which simply means that all aspects of ourselves are included – mind, body, spirit and soul. By exploring and taking an honest look at ourselves with renewed curiosity and without judgement we can gain a fresh perspective and begin to see the bigger picture of our lives unfolding. As we learn and start to apply more effective tools to assist us in accurately assessing what is troubling us, we have the potential for becoming more insightful, accepting, open and responsive and begin to move beyond a continued repetition of old patterns that have kept us stuck and discover new purpose and meaning in our lives.
